2017 Season.
The team hit the ground running back in the Spring, with riders finishing in the top 5 of every race they rode for the first part of the season, including 4 wins in March alone from Jake and Liam. April was a mixed month. Joe gave us our first result in The BC HSBC Spring Cup, with 15th at The Klondike Cleveland GP. Unfortunately Jake was brought down heavily in a crash in the same race at the final 1km point, robbed of a probable top 10 result and incurring injuries that saw him limp back to winning form over the next 6 weeks.
Billy struggled with a knee injury all year, but still managed to take a victory at a regional circuit race.
The next few National Series races saw us just out of the top 20, but consistently pushing to break the strangle hold of the biggest teams. We were in or around the top 10 in the National Series Team standings, despite injuries and illness effecting our limited rider roster.
Jake announced his return to form in winning The GA Bennett RR in impressive style.
More wins  and top 10 results followed, including the big spectator event, The Steel City Stage Cote de Bradfield Hill Climb, in which Joe smashed the existing record taking the win.
15th place at The BC HSBC Series Ryedale GP in Yorkshire, a brutal race, which underlinned Joe’s progression at the top level in the UK.
Jake took 19th place in a scary sprint at The BC HSBC Series Stockton GP, after fighting hard to get amongst the bigger teams lead-outs.
Along with numerous solid placings, Charlie took 3rd place at The East Midlands Regional Champs, a well deserved result after an problematic few months with health issues. Jake just missed the podium at The Yorkshire Regional Champs finishing 4th.
We were over in Belgium in August. The weather was very kind and we had mostly good luck on our side. The lads took numerous top 10 placings, including Jake’s 4th place. Jake’s best chance of victory was snatched from him by a crash in the last 300 metres of the teams final kermesse.
Back in the UK, Joe wasted no time to make use of his form from racing in Belgium, taking victory at The Jon Ibbottson Memorial race just 2 days after returning. More podium placings and numerous top 10 results came in the final phase of the road season.
Joe would compete from late September through October during the hill climb season, with the British Championships at the end of the month. Charlie, Joe and Liam took team victory at The HMT Monsal Hill Climb. Joe bagged several top placings and a couple of high profile wins, including The Rake HC. The season came to a close with The British HC Championships. Joe had not performed at his best, showing the signs of fatigue after a long tough season. 4th place was a great end to a great season for the team and Joe.
We are incredibly pleased with CYCLING SHEFFIELD’S first year, we have continued to punch above our weight at the top level, and rider development has been great. We have signed several new riders for 2018 and we’ll be sharing that news soon. We are currently talking with numerous potential new Sheffield partners. The future is bright for CYCLING SHEFFIELD .
Thanks DC.
