James Hartley

James Hartley Cycling Sheffield

Name:
James Hartley

Age:
20

Where do you live:
Sheffield.

How did you get into cycling:
I used to be a runner on track and cross country. I went out on rides with my dad and brother on weekends for a bit of fun and fitness but then took it more seriously about 3 years ago. I found that cycling was better for me and that I also enjoyed it more, so I inevitably stayed with the superior sport.

Earliest cycling memory:
Doing skids in my garden with my brother tearing up the grass. It was good fun on the heavy mountain bikes we had.

Favourite training route:
I don’t have a favourite route, I just like riding my bike in the Peak District, I like riding anywhere that’s quiet and often uphill.

Favourite film:
The Shawshank Redemption or A Few Good Men, they’re both very good.

Favourite music:
Any music.

“Must do” pre race ritual:
Have two pairs of socks on. One pair is thinner than the other pair, but the thicker pair aren’t super wooly socks. Not lucky socks or anything like that because I’m not superstitious, but just two pairs of socks.

World Tour race you’d most like to ride:
There’s two I can’t decide; either Tour of Britain or Tirreno Adriatico.
