The British Road Championships is always the highlight of the domestic race calendar, and in recent years the title has become more valuable with many world tour riders competing. 2018 was no exception, with several World Tour and Pro continental teams represented, Team Sky having 7 riders on the start list.
It was not a huge surprise when Connor Swift crossed the finish line to take the title, but it certainly didn’t follow the script Team Sky had at the start of the race. Connor rode with us for 2 years and was a great rider to work with, his potential was always clear to see. We are thrilled at his progress and feel great pride to have played a part in his journey.
Winning The British Champs along several other high level results attracted the attention of several World Tour teams, and Connor secured a Stagiarre (a trial, through August/September) with Team Dimension Data, alongside fellow Brits Mark Cavendish and Steve Cummings. Hopefully this will result in Connor receiving an offer of a full contract with the team. This success is a great endorsement of the role a team like CYCLING SHEFFIELD has to play in the pathway of talented ambitious riders.
