With just Joe and Charlie riding the plan was simple, Joe would ride for Charlie. The two of them were a little tired after the previous 2 days racing, but fingers crossed they be able to get a result.
Joe helped Charlie escape in a group of six riders, including Charlie and Harry Tanfield plus Graham Briggs. The group quickly pulled out a significant gap on the chase group. Joe policed the chase. Charlie was looking good for a possible podium until over-cooking it going in to the final corner and hit the barriers. This was race over for Charlie. Fortunately he wasn’t seriously hurt, but disappointed to have wasted the opportunity.
Charlie will draw confidence from the experience after being in the position to challenge for the win in a National A criterium.
