Late April we travelled to Germany for another UCI race. The Eschborn Frankfurt U23 race saw us lining up against many of the worlds best development teams, including Jumbo Visma and Lotto Destny. We had some last minute illness in the team, so George was unable to ride. The race was as expected rapid from poor the start. The 11km climb after 46km would prove to be the selection point of the race. Joe and Taylor made the mistake of starting too far back when the race hit the climb and despite moving through the rough numerous riders, they lost contact with the front group. Max and Hartley hung in there and went to the finish in centre of Frankfurt with the front group. James was sitting in the top 20 with 1km to go, and on for a great result, until a tussel with a rider forced him to lose his position. Max finished a very respectable 31st, in what was by far the biggest race he’d ridden. James finished 61st, frustrated at the missed opportunity. It was a great experience for our young riders, and we hope to return in 2024.
