This race was a highlight of the 2022 race program, a UCI stage race in Italy is always going to be a big challenge, as well as a great opportunity to learn for our young riders. We were up against some of the best young riders in the world, including teams Colpack, Alpecin and EF Nippo.

James Mckay was brought down in a crash after 5km on stage 2. After being patched up alongside the doctors car, James tried to rejoin the race, but the injuries to his hands prevented him from riding safely. James was forced to abandon. James demonstrated great character in helping staff  through the rest of the race and entertaining the lads, refusing to feel sorry for himself.

Bike racing is tough..

We had a couple more minor crashes for Adam and George, which didn’t result in any serious injuries, but did impact on their energy. On the queen stage, finishing at the summit of the legendary Monte Zoncalon Adam finished a very respectable 31st.

Adam finished 34th overall, and 11th young rider overall. George finished 44th overall and 15th young rider. James Hartley and Joe finished respectably in the bunch, and gained invaluable experience to take into next year as this season draws to an end.

Grazie.
